APD’s “Green Team” Featured on CATV

Alice Peck Day Health Systems in Lebanon, New Hampshire will be featured on local cable access channel CATV’s “Green Series” for its initiatives toward a more environmentally friendly campus.

Representatives throughout Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital and Harvest Hill demonstrated energy and resource-saving initiatives, including:

  • Using compact florescent bulbs on the Hospital campus
  • Switching to corn-based, compostable material in Dining Services
  • Initiatives in materials and ordering management to reduce waste
  • Increased opportunities and support for recycling throughout the campus

“We’re very proud that these programs and our on-campus ‘Green Team’ have saved APD money, helped to reduce healthcare spending, and made a positive contribution to our environment,” says Alex Jaccaci, Director of Organizational Improvement and Planning at APD and the administrative sponsor of the “Green Team.” “We’re delighted to have CATV spotlight the hard work and commitment of our staff and employees.” The program began running on Tuesday, January 26 with repeat showings through early February. Alice Peck Day Health Systems Welcomes New Hospital Board Trustees

January 21 -

At the annual meeting of the Alice Peck Day Health Systems Board in late December, the following individuals were appointed to the Hospital Board of Trustees:

James Callan of Springfield, N.H., General Manager of the Global Aerospace and Defense Unit of Timken, Inc. in Lebanon. As a Timken associate, he has worked in positions across the United States as well as internationally, including service in Singapore and as Latin American Market Manager. Mr. Callan was an active board member of various American Chamber of Commerce groups while living abroad for eight years and is currently active with several New Hampshire businesses and organizations. He received his M.B.A. in international business at the University of Dallas Graduate School of Management and completed an executive MBA program at Darden School of Business in 2005.

Richard Jennings of Caanan, N.H., Vice President and Commercial Lender at Mascoma Savings Bank of White River Junction. He is a member of the Hanover Rotary Club, the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce, the Hanover Affordable Housing Commission, the Upper Valley Housing Coalition, and the Upper Valley Mountain Bike Association. He received a B.A. in Economics from the University of New Hampshire’s Whittemore School of Business and Economics. He is also a graduate of the Massachusetts Bankers Association’s School of Commercial Lending.

Bruce Johnstone of Meriden, N.H. is a business and financial services executive. Mr. Johnstone is currently the President, CEO and owner of Central Supply in Lebanon. He also served for twenty-five years in banking at Fleet Bank and several other large banking firms. His community service includes serving as Director and Financial Committee Chair of Northeast Delta Dental and as Director, Adviser, and volunteer ski instructor for the New England Handicapped Sports Association. He earned his M.B.A. at Siena College and a Certificate in Finance from the Graduate School of Credit and Financial Management at Dartmouth College.

Dr. Jennifer Judkins of Springfield, N.H., an otolaryngologist who has been a member of APD’s medical staff since 2006. Her medical offices are at Upper Valley ENT in Lebanon. She serves on the Northeast Animal Power board, and maintains a working organic farm. Dr. Judkins received her medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio. She completed her internship in General Surgery and residency in Otolaryngology at Medical Center Hospital of Vermont, where she was awarded the Albee Surgical Research Award. Dr. Judkins served a second residency in Otolaryngology at the State University of New York, Brooklyn.

Mark Melendy, Esq. of Hartland, Vt., a partner at Melendy Moritz, PLLC of Hanover. He has over twenty years’ legal experience in a variety of practice areas. Mr. Melendy has served on the Board of Directors of the Woodstock Historical Society in Woodstock, Vermont; the Board of Directors of the Ottauquechee Health Foundation in Woodstock, Vermont; the Development Committee of Opera North in Lebanon, New Hampshire; the Planned Giving Committee of the Norman Williams Public Library in Woodstock, Vermont and is a deacon of the Quechee Community Church in Quechee, Vermont. He earned his M.B.A. at the University of New Hampshire, his J.D. at Fordham University School of Law and his LL.M. in tax law at the Boston University School of Law.

Alice Peck Day Health Systems Welcomes Laureen E. Chiras as Case Manager

January 12 -  Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital is pleased to welcome Laureen E. Chiras of Madison, N.H. as a Certified Case Manager.  Laureen will be helping coordinate admissions from other facilities, optimizing the utilization of APD’s beds, and ensuring that APD provides the appropriate amount and level of care.

Laureen received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Worcester State College in Worcester, Ma., and served as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts, Maine and New Hampshire.  She has worked with hospital leadership in achieving quality care and customer satisfaction and presented professionally at national conferences.

Elizabeth A. Pomeroy, Administrator of the Extended Care Facility, says “Laureen brings tremendous assets to our team. She is a solid partner in our work.  Her blend of sensitivity, knowledge and persistence makes her a perfect fit for our organization, and for our patients.”
 

Susan E Mooney, MD, MS, Appointed Vice President and Chief Medical Officer

January 8-Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, N.H., is pleased to announce the permanent appointment of Susan E. Mooney, MD, MS as Vice President and Chief Medical Officer.

Dr. Mooney joined APD as an OB-GYN in 2000, but left active practice to obtain a Masters in Quality Improvement from the Center for the Evaluative Clinical Sciences at Dartmouth College, and to complete a VA National Quality Scholars Fellowship. She returned to her role as provider at the Women’s Care Center and became APD’s Medical Director of Performance Improvement in 2007. In 2009, she was appointed Interim Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, and has recently accepted this role on a permanent basis. “We couldn’t be more pleased to have Sue in this position,” said Harry G. Dorman, III, APD’s president and CEO. “She is a very effective leader, and her commitment to communication, quality of care, and our community sets a standard for APD as a whole.”

Dr. Mooney received her medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and completed her residency at the University of New Mexico Medical Center at Albuquerque. She is certified by the American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She is also an Associate Assistant Professor at Dartmouth Medical School. Her professional interests include incontinence and pelvic reconstruction, and the health concerns of women with alternate lifestyles. Dr. Mooney continues to accept new gynecological patients at the Women’s Care Center, 603-448-3996.

Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital Welcomes Andrew G. Best, M.D. to the Emergency Department Staff

January 5 — Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, N.H., is pleased to welcome Andrew Best, M.D., to the staff of the Emergency Department. Best joined the APD medical staff on a per diem basis in the summer of 2009 is now a full-time member of the medical staff.

Dr. Best received his medical degree at University of Bristol, England and served internships in General Medicine and General Surgery at Torbay Hospital in Devon, England. He served his residency in Emergency Medicine and General Pediatrics at Mater Misericordiae Hospital in Brisbane, Australia. He has also worked in Sydney, Australia and at the Emergency Department of New London Hospital in New London, N.H. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Family Practice.
