building a new Day
Florence Nightingale understood that minimizing apprehension and uncertainty is an important part of the healing process. She knew that form, color, and light can help speed recovery. It was with these ideals as a guide and inspiration that the Board of Trustees of Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital began planning an extensive renovation to improve over 60% of the physical plant in a sustainable, energy efficient way.
The planned improvements will enhance the overall patient experience by providing easier access to all parts of the hospital while enhancing privacy and comfort.
To help meet the costs of this $17.3 million renovation, APD began the “quiet phase” of a capital campaign in October 2011 with a goal of $4 million. Though this is an ambitious goal, we are happy to report that over half of this goal has been met through gifts from:
We wish to thank everyone who has made a gift to building a new Day. With Phase I of the renovation complete, we now look forward to Phase II of construction which should commence in the spring of 2013. With the campaign in full swing, we are now reaching out to the Upper Valley community for support of this project which will affect the healthcare of everyone in the region for many years to come.

Why is community support so important?
Through the years the Upper Valley community has responded to APD’s need to support its operation and improve its facilities. From bake sales to fundraising benefit concerts, thousands of individuals have made gifts to the hospital, large and small. It was the collective giving power of individuals and businesses in the community that remodeled APD’s operating rooms and helped build and expand the Robert A. Mesropian Community Care Center which serves many families throughout the region. By contributing to the building a new Day campaign, you become a stakeholder in one of the essential institutions in the Upper Valley that cares for both young and old. When you give, you are demonstrating your belief that compassionate caring on a personal level is vital to our way of life. You are signaling that you believe that APD’s facility should match the level of care that you find here.
Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization. Gifts to the campaign are tax-deductible to the extent allowable by law. Our mission is to provide patient focused health care services that are responsive to community needs, promote wellness, and continually improve the quality of health care services in the community.
