Woodlands at Open House a Success
On October 5, Alice Peck Day Health Systems began a new chapter in its history of serving the community with a celebration and open house at The Woodlands at Harvest Hill. More than three hundred visitors, friends, residents and family members celebrated at the evening reception.
“This is an incredibly exciting day for us,” said Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital President Harry Dorman. “The Woodlands represents a vital next step in our commitment to serve the evolving needs of seniors in our community. When we opened Harvest Hill in 1996, we strove to set a new standard for quality of care, services, and lifestyle. With the Woodlands we’re taking one more giant step forward.” Dorman congratulated Administrator Rolande “Ron” Andrews for the tremendous amount of hard work, energy and inspiration she brought to the project. “Ron had the vision,” Dorman said. “We wouldn’t have done any of this without her.”
“As we discovered more about the Woodlands itself we were attracted to the size of the apartments and beauty of the common areas,” said resident Charlotte Houde-Quimby, who addressed the gathering. “The more we learned about the Woodlands, the more we wanted to be part of things from the beginning and have the opportunity to help shape the new community. If you are contemplating this move, I urge you to do it sooner rather than later, so that you can enjoy the benefits of your new lifestyle for as long as possible.”
"What amazes us every day about moving into the Woodlands are from the small details to the truly important things such as the food, the support from the staff, and the camaraderie of our new neighbors, which constantly exceed our lofty expectations," said former Hanover resident Robert Norman, who moved into the Woodlands with his wife Nita.
The first residents began moving into the Woodlands over the summer. Currently over half of the spacious apartments are occupied, with some still available to new residents. “As we were planning The Woodlands knew this residence would be different from every other independent living development in this area, but I didn’t fully realize how different it would be until we opened,” said Andrews. “On a nuts-and-bolts level, amenities like our indoor pool and the ‘all-under-one-roof’ collection of activities and communal spaces make this place unique, but what has most impressed me is the enthusiasm of the new residents who are forming the community in their image. It reminds me of when my daughter started college, and how excited she was to meet and get know the people who would be become her family and closest friends in one of the most important chapters of her life. It’s been great to see these amazing people meet each other and come together to form The Woodlands.”
