Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital Receives $720,000 Bequest
December 31—Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital (APD) in Lebanon, N.H., is pleased to announce a $720,000 bequest from the estate of the late Mary T. Burke, who passed away in 2008. Mrs. Burke was a long-time Auxiliary member and friend of the hospital who served as a trustee, volunteer, and incorporator. Her husband Earl A. Burke, who predeceased her in 1999, also served as an APD trustee and supporter.
“She was a very special lady,” recalls Barbara Brown, an APD volunteer and Auxilian who worked with Mrs. Burke on many projects, including the establishment of the hospital Gift Shop, which Brown founded and managed for many years. “She was a tremendous help to me. When the shop opened, she was instrumental.”
The Burkes married after World War II and came to settle in Lebanon. They were both very active in the Upper Valley Community, and Earl Burke owned a real estate firm in the city for many years. “We are honored that Mrs. Burke chose to share a significant portion of her estate with us,” says Melanie N. Moore, APD’s Director of Development. “Her generous contribution will be used to fund an electronic health record at APD, an important enhancement to patient care and safety.”
