APD to Host Mascoma River Greenway Grand Opening Celebration
The event will be presented by Lebanon Recreation and Parks and the Mascoma River Greenway Coalition. Events include remarks by the Mayor of Lebanon, Suzanne Prentiss, at 9:15am, followed by guided tours of the trail with historians, naturalists, cyclists, and trail experts. Participants can also enjoy free bike safety checks with Omer and Bob’s and ice cream with the Lebanon Police Department. There will also be an opportunity to meet the artists who’ve created sculptures for the MRG and view their projects: Steel Umbrella by Justin O’Rourke and Margaret Jacobs; and Wheels by Susan K. Johnson. Finally, two winners of the APD MRG bike giveaway will also be selected at the MRG Grand Opening.
For event information, contact Paul Coats at Lebanon Recreation and Parks (603) 448-5121.
The MRG is a multi-use pathway starting at the Mascoma Street/High Street intersection and extending west to Glen Road. Future plans include connecting to the current terminus of the Northern Rail Trail at Spencer Street in downtown Lebanon, NH and to West Lebanon’s Rt. 12-A and Seminary Hill. The MRG serves as the main transportation corridor for bikes and pedestrians through the heart of Lebanon and West Lebanon, connecting Lebanon’s neighborhoods with workplaces, schools, open spaces, shopping areas, restaurants, APD’s campus and transit stops. APD supported the trail as it provides no-cost healthy recreational opportunities, transportation benefits, economic development, and conservation benefits by taking cars off the road and allowing for appreciation of the Mascoma River. There is an MRG parking area across from the APD Homestead building that provides access to the trail.
