Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital (APD) has been recognized by the American Heart Association (AHA) for its efforts to improve outcomes for heart disease and stroke patients. APD adheres to AHA’s Get With The Guidelines initiative, which promotes up-to-date, research-based guidelines to ensure all patients have access to lifesaving care.
“Every 40 seconds, someone in America has a stroke or heart attack,” said Michele Bolles, AHA’s senior vice president of quality, outcomes research and analytics. “High-quality care should be accessible to all, and sites awarded through the Get With The Guidelines program help work toward our shared vision of health and hope for everyone, everywhere.”
“At APD’s emergency department, we work in close partnership with our stroke specialists at DHMC to deliver timely, high quality stroke care,” said Jennifer V. Pope, MD, APD’s director of emergency department and Express Care. “Through our dedicated stroke protocol and the use of tele-neurology, we ensure rapid evaluation and expert guidance for patients presenting with stroke symptoms.”
Heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 5 causes of death in the United States, respectively. These health crises require swift and proven treatment to ensure the best outcomes for patients. AHA sets the standards for hospitals nationwide for high-quality, science-based care and access with its Get With The Guidelines initiative.
Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) was also recognized.
“When treating a stroke patient, seconds count. It’s essential that the patient receives immediate, high-quality care to give them the best shot at full recovery and avoid a tragic outcome,” said Timothy G. Lukovits, MD, medical director of DHMC’s Cerebrovascular Disease and Stroke Program. “We rely on AHA’s Get With The Guidelines to ensure we are following current best practices for patients with cerebrovascular conditions. I’m so grateful for AHA’s leadership in this area, and for their recognition of our team at DHMC.”
