An echocardiogram is a type of ultrasound that shows how well your heart is working. It uses sound waves to create images of your heart. These images show how your heart is pumping and can help find problems with the heart muscle or valves.
During the test, a small handheld device is placed on your chest with a special gel to capture the images. After the test, a Dartmouth Health cardiologist reviews the images and sends the results to the doctor who referred you.
This helps your care team better understand your heart and decide on the best next steps for your care.
