Nursing Education and Accreditation Consultant Adjunct Faculty, Colby-Sawyer College
Deb Hastings, PhD, MSN, RN, NPD-BC, has many years of experience as a nursing educator, faculty member, and clinical nurse at the point of care. For nearly twenty-five years, Dr. Hastings practiced at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center first as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Perioperative Services and ultimately as the Director of Nursing Professional Development and Joint Accreditation. Past experience includes nursing faculty positions at Saint Anselm College, University of New Hampshire, and Colby-Sawyer College (CSC), and clinical positions in critical care and emergency services in both NH and Massachusetts. She currently consults on issues involving nursing education and accreditation and, in addition, serves as adjunct faculty in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program at CSC.
Dr. Hastings received her diploma in nursing from the Fall River Diploma School of Nursing in Massachusetts, an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Sociology from New England College, an undergraduate degree from the University of New Hampshire, majoring in Nursing with a minor in Women’s Studies, followed by a Master’s in Nursing (concentration in perioperative nursing) from the University of Connecticut. She earned her PhD in Nursing from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dr. Hastings holds current board certification in nursing professional development through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Dr. Hastings is a founder of New Beginnings without Violence and Abuse in Belknap County and has had the privilege of serving in a variety of leadership and advocacy roles in that organization. In addition, she is a long-time member of the NH Nurses Association and actively participates in the work of the Commission on Nursing Practice. She is a member of the editorial advisory board for the Journal of Continuing Education in Nursing and serves as an on-site evaluator for the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
